Holiday Log 2: Electric Boogaloo

Two semesters have come to pass, and what we know as a 'break' has come again.

I wouldn't exactly categorise the time I spent on break as a holiday, as I took no leisure from my troubles, even with time off from the responsibilities school normally plagues me with. I'm still as tense as ever. The human mind has the wonderful capability to stress itself out tirelessly.

But no matter. We're here to discuss what I did on break, not mourn over all the things I could have but didn't do.

As per usual, my free time was spent by an array of mindlessly self indulgent activities, mainly video games and watching Youtube. I have spent about 100 hours of my time on the game Fallout New Vegas by now, which I don't mind at all. It's a post-apocalyptic roleplaying game by Bethesda and Obsidian Entertainment, which takes place after international nuclear war and centers upon conflict surrounding the Mojave wasteland, turmoil raging on even centuries after the threat of nuclear war. I love it, particularly for its writing and characters, but I've grown a bit bored of it in recent times. Probably because of how much time I spent on it. Nevertheless, I find myself still wanting to add more to those hours. To call it addicting would be an understatement; but if it isn't a damn good addiction!

Despite my break majorly consisting of mundane, mind-numbing things, one special thing I did on break was meet up with my online friend group in Jakarta. I've known these people since 2019 and have met some of them in the past. We organised a get-together over Discord and finally came together to bring it to life on the 6th of June.

I stayed with my mother in Cikini at a charmingly old hotel. It was far from the designated meeting place as the meetup wasn't the sole intention of us coming to Jakarta, with my mother also having business there; so, we took the train to Manggarai station, wherein most of my friends and I had met.

Amour, Via, Nada and I boarded the train to Duri station, where we would be taking a car to meet our friend Naflah at the mall. I had met Via and Nada in person before, but this was my first time meeting Amour. Needless to say, she was very excited to see me, and greeted me by running in my direction and hugging me aggressively. Not that I mind at all, it was just very surprising.

We chatted all throughout the train ride and car ride, giggling to ourselves without a care in the world.

Finally arriving at the mall, we encountered Naflah at the entrance and proceeded to also greet her by running in her direction and hugging her aggressively.

The rest of the day was fun-- we spent our time at the mall eating lunch together whilst catching up and conversing, playing rhythm games at the arcade (where we also got confronted by a mall cop for recording videos as we weren't allowed to do so, which I think is an utterly rubbish policy), and taking pictures. I have to admit, I was very sad when the night was over and we had to part ways. It was a bittersweet moment. I suppose that's the very reason as to why we took so many pictures and videos, to capture the moment and carry it with us forever.

The rest of the Jakarta trip was relatively uneventful. I visited a figure gallery with my mother, but outside of that, nothing notable really occurred. Soon as I knew it, I was back at home, and the break had ended.
